Filming the Roger Albert Clark Rally 2023 – A Five-Day Epic
The Roger Albert Clark Rally is the biggest and most prestigious historic rally event in the UK – and in 2023, we were right there in the thick of it.
From 23rd to 27th November, Eastwood Drones was on the road, filming from South Wales to the Scottish border for five days straight. This year’s route was longer and tougher than ever, with hundreds of stage miles and a stacked entry list including top UK rally drivers and international stars like Mark Higgins, Oliver Solberg, and Osian Pryce.
We were supporting Special Stage TV on the live broadcast, with Chris and Gavin operating our DJI Inspire 3 drone in dual-operator mode. The rally threw every weather condition at us — rain, sleet, mud, low cloud — but the Inspire 3 handled it all, delivering steady, cinematic shots that helped tell the story of the rally as it unfolded in real time.
Each day meant early starts and late finishes, covering remote forest stages across England, Wales and Scotland. Meanwhile, Ben was on hand capturing behind-the-scenes content of the crew at work — another layer of storytelling for one of the best events on the UK motorsport calendar.
Events like the R.A.C. are a reminder of where we started — flying drones in the world of rallying. It’s our favourite kind of job. There’s nothing quite like chasing a rally car through the forest at 70mph, trying to keep it framed between trees while flying backwards at full tilt.
If you’re producing a rally film, working on a motorsport commercial, or want to capture live action in extreme environments, we’ve got the team and equipment to make it happen. Get in touch to talk about your next project.
