Drone Filming the Cambrian Rally – Back Where It All Began
There’s something about rallying that feels like home. For two days in late October, we were deep in the forests of North Wales, flying for the Cambrian Rally — part of the Welsh Rally Championships — and delivering live broadcast drone coverage for the team at Special Stage TV.
This job was pure Eastwood Drones. The pace, the terrain, the split-second timing — this is the kind of flying we built our name on. Working from our van, fully rigged with remote production equipment and on-the-move charging systems, we were able to maintain a dual-operator setup using the DJI Inspire 3, tracking cars through the trees at speed and capturing the drama that only rallying can deliver.
Chris flew while Ben operated the camera, and between them, they brought in the kind of tight, dynamic tracking shots that are impossible to fake. Rallying demands more than just technical skill — it’s instinctive. You need to understand the rhythm of the stages, know where the drivers will lift and where they’ll push, and be ready to commit with the drone when they do.
Filming rally cars with drones isn’t just something we do — it’s something we love. These events take us back to our earliest jobs, where the whole idea of chasing fast cars through Welsh forests first took hold. There’s a raw energy to it, and working with a brilliant broadcast team like Special Stage TV always brings out the best in us.
Drone filming in North Wales will always be part of our story. And when it comes to rallying, we’re just getting started.
