Flying Drones for Guy Martin and the RNLI

A few months ago, Eastwood Drones were hired by North One TV to capture drone footage for the new series of Guy Martin: Proper Jobs. We worked on the first episode, “Lifeboat Crew,” which aired on U&Dave and follows Guy as he trains and works alongside the RNLI in Grimsby.

This was a classic job that called for experience, coordination, and solid sea legs.

We were tasked with capturing cinematic aerial shots of Guy Martin, the RNLI lifeboat, and the North Sea coastline around Grimsby. Our setup for this shoot was the DJI Inspire 3, a high-end drone capable of shooting stabilised ProRes footage in rough conditions.

We launched the drone from a second support vessel, with Chris piloting and Gavin operating the camera and managing hand take-offs and catches. Working in open water meant we had to constantly assess the swell, adjust our flight plans on the fly, and communicate tightly with the production team onboard.

Shooting boats with drones is never easy. The rolling motion of the deck, unpredictable weather, and saltwater environment create real challenges – not just for flying, but for keeping equipment and people safe. But that’s exactly why North One brought us in. We’ve got the track record and the kit to handle this kind of work.

Whether it’s filming rescue boats, offshore work, commercial shipping, or open-water action scenes, we’ve spent years refining the techniques required to get clean, dynamic drone shots in tough conditions.
